     About BIRAs

Sponsorship of BIRAs

The British Inflammation Research Association (BIRAs) was initially established with the aid of start-up funding provided by UK companies. Sponsorship is often also important to BIRAs in maintaining high quality meeting, often involving speakers from other countries (including the USA), without making these too expensive for its members. BIRAs thus  recognises the need for sponsorship and welcomes such offers.

However, BIRAs wishes to be seen to be independent of any overriding commercial concern and thus does not accept sole sponsorship of any of its activities. For example, sponsorship of a meeting will be accepted, provided the meeting is free from any constraints on its content.  No advertisement or presentation of pharmaceutical company interests (e.g. drugs pertinent to the subject of the meeting) is allowed.

Other forms of acceptable sponsorship are:

  • sponsorship (travel, accommodation, etc.) of an individual speaker at one of its meetings.
  • commercially-orientated displays or stands, such as those by suppliers of reagents or  publishers of scientific or medical textbooks, are permissible where they offer a genuinely useful and unbiased service to the researchers likely to attend the meeting.
  • mailshots to its members of company information of possible relevance to Member’s interest.
  • donations of funds to allow members to travel to scientific conferences in the area of inflammation, e.g. for awards for young investigators (i.e. PhD students) to attend national and international inflammation conferences.
  • contribution(s) to the cost of its activities, e.g. this web site.

If so desired by the sponsoring company, such contributions will be recognised at the end of any relevant literature or, in the case of this web site, under the list of sponsors given and links to Sponsoring Companies web sites given in this list..

If you wish to sponsor any BIRAs activities, or have a display at one of our meeting please contact a member of the committee
